Mumbai’s New Solar Obsession

“Saab china ka imported showpiece chahiye kya?”
You may have heard road vendors coming to you with this sentence very often for the new solar powered flip flap showpiece they are selling these days. This new solar flower from china seems to be getting famous among Mumbai signals and cars. From our cabbies to our rich Corporate all are flaunting this new gizmos either in their Fiat or the corporate in their lush Mercedes. Some even seem to be replacing our Mumbai’s favourite Lord Ganesha with this new gizmo and others prefer to place it alongside him.
You can spot this at most of our Mumbai’s busy signals and can notice it on the suburb side long signals. They will initially quote you a hefty amount of Rs.150 informing you that “saab yeh maal imported hai” and if you negotiate then “saab nahi parvadega par aapke liye 10 kam karega” settling further down and cutting the deal at Rs.40 to Rs.50 max.
These are available in various colours like Red, Green, blue, orange and white. Also, with a variety of shapes to choose from like a spider, butterfly or a flower. As the name suggest, these work on solar power and thus masses also prefer keeping it on the parapet of their windows. So when are you getting your new Mumbai Solar Toy?
But be quick in the bargain as you never know when the signal turns green and the entire traffic behind you starts honking immediately.
