Let us today understand that what is UID and How it will affect the future of India?
Well, basically this project is known as AADHAR project. According to this project, every Indian citizen will be allotted a string of number (May be 10,15 or even 20 Digit). This number will be unique for that Indian citizen. And the system will ensure than like PAN Cards in India, no one can have two UIDs through its bio-metric feature.
So What will be the advantage of AADHAR UID?
There are several advantages of allotting AADHAR UID to each and every Indian citizen. The first advantage is that, the entire 1.2 Billion population will have its own Identity number which will act just like your driving license or passport.
Right now, if you are living in one state and wants to open a bank account or any other service like mobile phone in another state than there is a lots of problem because of the residential address proof being of other state. But in the future, you can issue UID from your own state and it will work Pan India.
Thus, no headaches. For banks and other institutions also, it will be a simple to manage thing.
Not only this but the companies can higher employees on UID basis. As all the bio-metric data is stored on the government servers, there is no worry about the identification of an individual.
And because of this UID, the crime rate will also reduce as identification of the individuals will become easy.
This project has already been launched on 29th September 2010 and 100,000 cards have been issued up to now. But still it has to cover the entire population of India.
Thus, in the future, all you need is the UID only to open a new bank account, mobile service or any other utility pan India. No need of other documents.
Nandan Nilekani heads this project. And I am sure that he will make it excellent…!!!
